Easy Knit-in-the-Circular Baby Lid Blueprint
There are a lot of reasons to love knitting babe hats. Starting time of all, babies demand them in all seasons to cover their small and fragile heads. Not only that, every baby looks adorable in a knit hat, and they are a sugariness gift that you lot can give to friends and family, or to your favorite charity.
This is a not bad modest-scale project for new knitters who want to learn how to knit in the round. Knitters can use either double-pointed needles or a circular needle. For beginners, I added a video to bear witness how to use double-pointed needles.
Materials Yous Will Need
- 4 U.s. #six (4 mm) double-pointed needles or a circular needle
- Yarn needle
- Category 4 medium worsted weight yarn with a total length of approximately 50 to 100 yards: Color A (white) approx. 42–86 yards and Color B (yellow) 8–14 yards
- Sew marker for a round needle user

How to Choose a Size
Babies are all dissimilar. When you choose to knit a lid, do not rely on historic period alone—measure the baby'south head first.
Gauge
22 sts x 30 rows = iv" x 4" in stocking sts
Measure the infant's head to determine the right size lid.

Abbreviations and Explanations
- Yard = Knit
- P = Purl
- K2tog = Knit 2 stitches together
Blueprint Instructions
- With Color A, cast on (64, lxxx, 96) stitches evenly on three Usa #6 (4 mm) double-pointed needles. Brand sure not to twist and join to knit in the round.
OR
- Cast on (64, fourscore, 96) stitches with a US #half dozen (4 mm) round needle by using yarn Color A. Brand sure not to twist and join to knit in the round. Place a marker to call back the starting stitch.
Rounds 1-four: (K1, P1) effectually.

Round 5: Modify Color B and (K1, P1) effectually.
Rounds six-8: (K1, P1) around.
Round nine: Alter Color A and (K1, P1) around.
Round ten: (K1, P1) around.
Round 11: K around.
Repeat Round 11 to reach Round (26, 34, 42) OR the hat measures approx. (3.25", three.75", five.25") from the cast on edge.
Start to shape elevation.
Round one: (K6, K2tog) around. (56, 70, 84) sts
Circular ii: K around.
Circular 3: (K5, K2tog) around. (48, 60, 72) sts
Round iv: K effectually.
Round 5: (K4, K2tog) effectually. (40, l, lx) sts
Round half-dozen: Chiliad around.
Round 7: (K3, K2tog) around. (32, 40, 48) sts
Round 8: Thou around.
Round 9: (K2, K2tog) effectually. (24, 30, 36) sts
Round ten: K around.
Circular xi: (K1, K2tog) around. (16, 20, 24) sts
Round 12: K around.
Round xiii: (K2tog) around. (8, 10, 12) sts
Cut the yarn nearly 10 inches to work with. With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops, draw up firmly, fasten securely, and weave in the wrong side of piece of work. Weave in the other ends also.

I made this video for beginners. It shows how to knit a hat for a baby that's 0–3 months sometime. Hats for 3–6 and half-dozen–12 calendar month-olds are described in parentheses. I am using four double-pointed needles in the video. Y'all can also use five double-pointed needles if yous want.

Reply: For the hat, knit a row.
Question: Can I apply straight needles for the chapeau?
Respond: You tin can't use directly needles. Delight use either a gear up of DPNs or a circular needle.
Question: How many stitches do you add if you want to go far larger?
Answer: You can add multiple of 8 stitches if you desire to make larger.

T Chandler, yep, that's what I usually do! For this project, it does non thing and so much how many stitches are on each individual needle, and then long every bit they are pretty equal.
